San Luis Valley Regional/Bergman Field Runway Diagram Print

San Luis Valley Regional Airport works a single runway, and the print is built around that one line: 2/20, 8,521 by 100 feet of asphalt, laid across the sheet as a long diagonal running southwest to northeast. A parallel taxiway runs the length of the strip on its northwest side and rejoins it at a handful of connectors, and that second line is what keeps the composition from reading as a single bare stroke.

The field was conceived in 1939, construction began the same year, and it opened in early 1941. It is named for Carl A. Bergman, a local businessman who lived from 1908 to 1988 and was an early backer of the project, which is why the published name carries Bergman Field alongside San Luis Valley Regional. Monarch flew the first airline flights here with DC-3s in 1946 and 1947, and Monarch's successor Frontier began service in 1982 with Convair 580s. The airport is two miles south of Alamosa in Alamosa County, Colorado, owned by the City and County of Alamosa, and covers 1,700 acres.

Traffic is modest and the diagram shows it. In the year ending January 31, 2018 the field recorded 8,403 aircraft operations, an average of 23 a day, and it has no control tower. The April 2022 to March 2023 passenger figures put Denver as the busiest route out of ALS, at roughly 9,000 passengers.
